On the edge of Cologne's Südstadt, somehow obviously hidden between the railroad line, wasteland and Bonner Straße, lies the wholesale market site (Großmarkt). Every day, tons of food are sold here to restaurants, shop owners and institutions, with business peaking from 2 to 7 in the morning. But in the spaces in between, the site tells a different story: vacancy, waste and decay characterize the area, whose relocation was already decided in 2008. There is still nothing to be seen of the vision of PARKSTADT SÜD, "one of the largest inner-city urban development projects in Germany." Instead, pigeons, crows and seagulls offer a new, more-than-human narrative of this place in transition. The film follows the diverse inhabitants of the Großmarkt in their daily routines, tracing spatial, economical and ecological conflicts through a reduced form of visual observation.
